Dest and Nints arrived at the village, the Empyrean forces were there, apparently they had already killed everyone in the village.

"Damn! We're too late" Destrell yelled as he saw the destruction.
"Dest! What do we do?" Nints asked as he arrived right before Destrell, who just then realized that in Zephyr's absence he was in charge of leading the Academy's forces.

"I... I don't know!... Fidel, you and the other riders, go get them from the left, everyone else, follow me!"

It was obvious to everyone that Dest wasn't an experienced commander, his strategy was reckless and not well thought out... and it showed as soon as they started attacking the Empyreans.
While the Academy's troops were very unorganized, going head on against the bulk of the Empyreans, the Empyreans were organized, changing formations and strategies, blocking most of the Academy's attacks. The enemy took advantage of the Dest's lack of skill and quickly the Academy's army was surrounded by the Empyreans.

"No! Don't let them do it, break their formations!"
Dest started yelling orders, which were largely ignored by the other soldiers, who now were just fighting for their lives.
"We're dead..."

Dest was just about to drop his sword when he saw it, a magnificent beast, a Peryton. The animal rammed the Empyreans, taking them down dozens at a time, giving the Academies a way to get out of the circle the Empyreans had formed around them.

"Dest, where did that come from?" Nint asked in confusion
"I'm not sure... but I think Zephyr summoned it..."
"So that means Zeph is still around here?"
"He has to be..."
"Well Dest, how are goi-"
"I'm gonna find Zephyr."
"What? You can't leave us alone here, even with that Peryton on our side we can't fight the Empyreans."
"He's a much better commander than I am, we need him here if we want to fight off the Empyreans."
"But-"
"You're in charge now, don't worry, it won't be too long, I'll be back soon."

*Since Dest managed to post before I began mine I'll just continue on where he left off*

Nints was left in charge of the group. Watching Dest from behind he figured there wasn't much that he could do. After all, he had proven himself in the field again and again. He quickly scanned the battle with darting eyes.

The Academy soldiers were struggling, there were stragglers who had attempted to flank them as per Dest's previous orders. But most had pulled out and found their way back to Fidel. Most were confused.

That was when Fidel saw it. The stragglers from the Academy had unknowingly opened up the enemy forces for an attack straight down the throat. Fidel didn't waste any time.

"Alright men, we're going to hit them straight down the throat!" Fidel boomed, surprising even himself. The voice had it's effect, the soldiers were now determined.

"Let's go!" Fidel commanded and leading the group they were in the middle of it all. The plan worked perfectly as the Empyreans being arrogant as they were were caught completely off guard. As the Empyrean soldiers turned to fend themselves off the attack from the center, the flanking soldiers pushed in and the heat was firmly on the Empyreans.

The thrill of the battle was great, but there was the thought nagging at the back of Fidel's head and he was hoping that Dest would be able to find Zephyr as quick as possible.

Fidel Nints has lost two families. And the only way he isn't going to lose his current family is by fighting for it.
